One woman asked a Mrs Hinch fan group for help to get rid of the smell in her washing machine. Group member Diane Foxx said: "Hi everyone. Need some advice on stopping your washing machine smelling. I have tried all sorts and nothing seems to work."
Fans of Mrs Hinch were quick to offer their help, with one hack the clear winner amongst fans. Loads of group members said that a dishwasher tablet does the trick with no need for scrubbing the machine.
Ange Richmond commented: "Put 2 dishwasher tabs in drum, do a hot wash, once done wipe drum door seal with undiluted Zoflora, leave door open. I do this once a month with the tablets, wipe drum and seal 2/3 times a week and leave the door open as often as possible, never smells."
Shelley Wilson agreed. She said: "Dishwasher tablet on a hot wash. I also put some bleach in the draw and cleaned out the draw and sprayed behind draw with Dettol mould and mildew spray and washed on a cold wash first then sprayed in the seal as that was a bit mouldy and set off on a second wash with a dishwasher tablet on hot and out side crystals in the drum with dishwasher tab and in the draw dispenser. It was my friends washer. It smelt fine after I’d done this. They now always keep door open fully after a wash overnight and keep draw open a bit too. They’ve had no more mould build up as yet and washer still smells fine."
Other members said that leaving the washing machine door open after every wash is the key to a fresh smelling home. Donna Thomas said: "Make sure you leave the door open after using it. I never used to do this and now never have any smell in mine."
