Washing machines are one of the most used appliances in our homes, but they can be a nightmare to keep clean.
Nasty smells in your washing machine are caused by mould and bacteria. When you put clothes in your machine, body oil, dirt, hair, and other scum gets trapped in the gasket, seal, and detergent dispenser.
If your washing machine smells bad, this can then lead to clothes smelling like damp, even when they've been washed and dried. Because washing machines often have poor ventilation, mould can be extremely common.

But there are some ways to get rid of it. One woman took to a Facebook group for fans of cleaning guru Mrs Hinch to ask for help with cleaning her washing machine.
She had noticed black mould inside it and was desperate to get rid of it, the Mirror reports. She wrote: "I now have really bad black mould on my washing machine seal and I've tried everything from washing machine cleaners, citrus wipes to bleach, it just looks so grubby and nothing is working, any help with this would be great thanks."
Mrs Hinch fans came to the rescue, and someone recommended an affordable bathroom staple to get rid of the spores. One said: "Mouthwash!! Lay kitchen towel on the rubber part, pour mouthwash over it leave overnight then wipe."
A second added: "What she said, worked perfectly for mine", and a third said: "Mouthwash, but leave overnight then wipe it clean or your clothes smell like mint".
Tesco currently sells mouthwash for 45p.
