A cleaning enthusiast has shared details of a "genius" use for spare socks lying around the house.
It's inevitable that sooner or later pairs of socks will get separated, and it seems more often than not that they are never reunited.
Some households keep a bag of odd socks that rarely — if ever — gets opened whilst others go so far as to throw away lonely socks.

However, according to one Mrs Hinch fan, there is a fantastic use for odd socks when cleaning the house.
They shared a photo in the Mrs Hinch cleaning tips and tricks Facebook group that reads: "If you run out of sheets for your wet/dry mop, just dampen an inside-out sock with your favourite cleaning solution, stretch it around the mop head, and use as you normally would.
"The cotton sock will effectively pick up dirt and dust, leaving your floor spotless. Bonus: when you're finished cleaning, you can just toss the sock in the wash and reuse."
Since being uploaded earlier this week, the post has amassed almost 2,000 likes and over 800 comments — mainly from cleaning enthusiasts praising the hack.
One wrote: "Great idea for getting underneath beds if you have laminate flooring. Going to try this, thanks."
A second shared: "What a great idea!"
"That is bloody genius," commented a third.
Another said: "Wow this is a great tip with the amount of odd socks I end up with."
"Omg why did I never think of this when I'm running out of clean mop heads," a fifth posted.
Other users even suggested different variations of the hack.
"You could use old flannel too," one proposed.
"It’s also great to put on the end of a broom to get cobwebs," a second recommended.
