A cleaning fan's little-known trick involving the drawer of the washing machine has left many social media users desperate to try it.
Most of us probably use our washing machines for doing laundry multiple times a week, and maybe don't even consider giving it a clean. But over time, dirt and grime can build up in the nooks and crannies, making it run less efficiently.
So it's vital to give it a bit of care from time to time - and one woman has revealed a simple way to do this that you might not even have thought was possible.
Edinburgh Live reports that the genius hack was posted on a Facebook group for fans of the cleaning influencer Mrs Hinch.
In the post, the woman explained how she was unaware that you could remove the drawer of the washing machine and clean it separately. After taking it out, she saw it was coated in dirt and grime, so decided to give it a good scrub with an old toothbrush and warm soapy water.
She also shared some before-and-after snaps of her hack, writing: "How on earth did I not know this draw came out?! I’m not officially an adult and love cleaning haha! Thank you everyone for your cleaning tips and tricks".
The post soon attracted hundreds of likes and comments from other cleaning fans who were just as gobsmacked to learn about the hack.
One said: "I didn’t know that either!"
A second shared: "They say you learn something everyday..... Well today I learned this thank you".
"Like new - well done," a third praised.
A fourth posted: "I brought a second hand washing machine and had it for 3 years ( no idea how long they had it) before I pulled the drawer out and it was thick with black mould I had never seen anything like it couldn't believe I was washing my clothes in that filth. Pull mine out once a month now."
Other users recommended tips to help clean the compartment.
One suggested: "Just apply science, pour some boiling water into the detergent drawer, it flushes all that stuff away and set machine to wash, happy days".
"This grime drives me mad - I clean mine each week now - 6 adults in our horse so washing machine takes a bashing. I also soak the drawer in hot soapy water over night - comes up a treat," replied a second.
