'Mr Liverpool FC' who has only missed two games in 55 years and still trains every day

A football referee nicknamed "Mr Liverpool FC" has only missed two home games in 55 years and still trains every day.

Brian Purcell has been labelled a "living legend" in Deeside in North Wales after officiating more games than he can remember. Each morning he takes to the local 3G pitch and on Thursdays he puts himself through a strenuous gym routine.

He said: "Hopefully I’ll be fit enough to referee again next season. The day I can’t keep up with play, to give a correct decision, is the day I’ll stop refereeing."
