A group of MPs and Lords have headed on a sponsored cricket tour to Jamaica during the building cost of living crisis.

Conservative MP Dame Caroline Dinenage posted a picture of the Lords and Commons team on tour in the Caribbean. Included in the team snap are her husband, peer Mark Lancaster, Conservative chief whip Chris Heaton-Harris, and minister Nigel Adams. The group were playing at Jamaica’s Treasure Beach, where they were joined by with Jamican cricket legend Chris Gayle, who Dinenage also posed with.

A spokeperson from Virgin Atlantic have confirmed to The Londoner: “we sponsored their flights to Jamaica for the trip”. The team has been criticised previously for taking money from billionaire Sanjeev Gupta for a tour of Australia. It is not thought to be funded by the taxpayer.

The country is facing an increasing cost of living crisis, with few politicians at their desks. Chancellor of the Exchequer Nadhim Zahawi was criticised this week by ex-PM Gordon Brown for refusing to cut his holiday short. “Someone has to be in charge” he said adding “it’s not that they are sleeping at the wheel; there’s no one at the wheel right now”.
