Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress took out a 'Kisan Nyay Yatra' on tractors in support of farmers demanding to increase the minimum support price (MSP) of soybean crop from Rs 4892 a quintal to Rs 6000 a quintal across the state on Friday.
Congress workers, under the leadership of Congress MLAs Ajay Singh and Arif Masood, held the Nyay yatra on tractors from Ratibad to Bhadbhada locality in the state capital Bhopal.
Workers submitted memorandum
The police stopped the Congress workers at Bhadbhada by placing barricades, and they submitted a memorandum of their demands to increase the MSP of Soybean to Rs 6,000 a quintal.
Yatra justice for farmers
Congress leader Ajay Singh said, "This is a Nyay Yatra for the respect of the farmers. We are taking out Nyaya yatra to demand justice for the farmers, which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had made promises regarding the MSP. We will continue our fight for the benefit of the farmers."
Similarly, under the leadership of former CM Digvijaya Singh and MP Congress chief Jitu Patwari, Kisan Nyay Yatra was organised in Indore district. Patwari also submitted a memorandum in the name of the governor demanding to increase the MSP of the soybean crop.
Patwari said, "If any idea is anti-farmers in the country, it is Bharatiya Janata Party. It was Modi's guarantee to provide MSP Rs 2700 a quintal for wheat and Rs 3100 a quintal for paddy. The farmers are demanding an MSP of Rs 6,000 for soybean as Rs 4500 spent in its cultivation. BJP is fooling the farmers. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan lied about doubling the income of farmers and making farming a profitable business, it has become a loss business."
Mandi to be shut down
The Congress party has decided that today it was a demonstration to gheraoed the collector office across the state and submit a memorandum. In the next move, mandi will be shut down, and lastly, it will reach the state assembly, he added.
Additionally, in Gwalior district, the Congress workers began the yatra on tractors from Phool Bagh Square and reached the Collector's Office through various routes.
The Congress leaders said that on the call of the party, Kisan Nyay Yatra was being taken out across the state. Farmers were facing problems. On one hand, the Madhya Pradesh government says that it will double the income of farmers, while on the other hand, the farmers are in trouble. Farmers are not even getting fair prices for their crops. The MSP of the soybean crop should be increased to Rs 6,000 a quintal. (with Agency inputs)
