Film director Martin McDonagh has said it is "brilliant” to hear claims that his movie The Banshees of Inisherin could clean up at next year’s Oscars.
US entertainment publication Hollywood Reporter tipped Kerry Condon, Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson for Oscar glory at next year’s ceremony.
The Banshees of Inisherin stars Farrell and Gleeson are also "frontrunners" in the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor categories, respectively.
Condon, Farrell and Gleeson's co-star in Martin McDonagh's new film, is among the "major threats" for a Best Supporting Actress nomination.
Martin’s film, which is released in cinemas on Friday, is also among the "frontrunners" for Best Picture and Best Screenplay nominations, with the London Irish filmmaker also among the "major threats" for a Best Director nod.
Reacting to the rumours, Martin told us: “I think it’s brilliant. I don’t make films very often anyway so it’s nice. If people are talking about it that way, usually it means it is good and usually it means people will go to see it to check what the fuss is about.
“All the performances I think deserve it. We’ll see what happens in a few months but I’m hopeful for them because I think they should.”
Both McDonagh and Farrell were among the winners at the Venice International Film Festival earlier this month when their dark comedy received its world premiere.
The Banshees of Inisherin will be in cinemas from Friday, while the Oscar nominations will be revealed on Tuesday 24 January 2023.
The 95th Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday March 12 next year.
