Move Over Citrus – Jo Malone’s New Summer Fragrance Collection Takes Inspiration From the Vegetable Patch

Jo Malone veggies collection.

Jo Malone's new Veggie Collection has perfectly captured the olfactory nostalgia usually triggered by flourishing vegetable patches in summer. These kinds of earthy, sweet, ripe scents take me straight back to long, hot days spent in my grandparents' garden and provide a welcome fragrancing break from the citrus notes we usually see enjoying a reprise over the warmer months.

I was lucky enough to recently be among the first to sample the scents from the brand-new, limited-edition Jo Malone Veggies Collection, inspired by traditional British gardens.

With summer just around the corner, I am certain that the fresh, bright, yet unexpected scent profiles, such as Velvety Butternut, are set to become among the best home fragrance picks for a balmy season.

Come summer, I'd argue that there's no better scent profile than fresh vine tomatoes − I'd even go so far as to say it's my favorite fragrance of all time. I'm not the only one, either. Anyone who knows anything about the tomato girl summer trend will know that it's an enduring staple for a refreshing space that brightens and uplifts.

The Malin+Goetz tomato candle already appears in my guide to the best candles, and now the Jo Malone Green Tomato Vine Townhouse Candle is sure to become a firm part of my scenting rotation to make my home smell nice all throughout the sunnier seasons. Available in two sizes and housed in a gorgeous green ceramic vessel, it promises that same punchy scent distribution and clean, even burn that made Jo Malone a household name, this time with a vibrant, herbaceous aroma.

If you prefer to make use of the best reed diffusers instead, there's also a Green Tomato Vine Townhouse Diffuser, available at Jo Malone, for a more low-maintenance way to make your home smell nice without candles, and there's a Green Tomato Vine Diffuser Oil Refill and Tomato Leaf Hand Wash, too.

In terms of perfumes, the new limited-edition collection also sees a Carrot Blossom Cologne, Scarlet Beetroot Cologne, and Velvety Butternut Cologne entering the Jo Malone line-up this summer. I've smelled them all, and they're all equally as interesting, unusual, and beautiful.

The collection makes a delightfully refreshing departure from the usual clean citrus notes that rise in popularity for summer home scenting, and it smells luxurious and unique.

What to Shop

If something from the limited-edition Jo Malone Veggies collection has caught your eye, you can shop my top picks below, along with some affordable alternatives for bringing the refreshing scent of vegetables into your home this summer.

Two sizes

Crafted with high-grade paraffin wax, these candles guarantee a strong, even scent dispersal and clean burn. The gloss glaze ceramic vessel makes it the perfect candle jar to reuse around your house (so long as you know how to get candle wax out of jars) or to gift to a loved one this summer.

Editor's pick

This was my favorite of the colognes I smelled, so much so that I'm very tempted to order myself a bottle now that the collection is out. I love wearing more unusual perfumes, and this one features notes of fennel, orange flower, patchouli, and white musk.

Five months of scenting

The 10 reeds that come with this diffuser release scent continuously for approximately four to five months, so it will last you all summer long. I'm not usually one for scenting my kitchen, but this is the exception − foodie scents like tomato are right at home there.

Decorative

I love the charming ceramic vessel of this tomato candle, which features a soy wax blend and a cotton candle wick for a clean burn, and a burn time of 56 hours. Before each burn, it's important to use a wick trimmer, available on Amazon, to remove any 'bloom' from when it was previously lit.

Soy wax blend

This candle evokes the richness of a flourishing vegetable garden warmed by the sun, and is poured into a gorgeous tulip-shaped vessel to add a cozy glow to your space. This one features top notes of stone fruit, middle notes of mint, and bottom notes of amber.

Pet-friendly

I have four dogs, so my candle burning is always limited to rooms where they don't go, like my bedroom. This candle pick, however, is formulated with coconut soy wax and without over 250 harsh chemicals, paraffins, or phthalates, so it's safe to use around your furry friends.

If you're feeling inspired to explore more from Jo Malone, this candle is Kate Middleton's signature scent, so much so that she even burned it in Westminster Abbey on her wedding day, and Catherine Zeta-Jones swears by Jo Malone's Lime Basil & Mandarin candle and has done so ever since she was first gifted it by Elton John.
