Moussa Dembele ends six month goal drought nightmare as ex-Celtic hitman scores header in shock defeat

Moussa Dembele has put his awful goal drought to bed after netting for Lyon in a drab defeat to Auxerre.

The Frenchman has had a torrid season in front of goal for the Ligue 1 outfit having managed just two goals prior to Friday night's embarrassing 2-1 defeat to relegation fodder Auxerre. The Celtic hitman was reportedly the subject of transfer interest from English Premier League outfit Aston Villa last month but a measly fee of around £3m was floated for the 26-year-old meaning the Hoops wouldn't net much of a windfall on their sell-on clause.

An exit from Lyon never materialised, however, and Friday saw the French star's first goal since the start of September. It had been a whopping 655 minutes since the striker last hit the target with his header being palmed over the line by the Auxerre keeper.

Dembele's celebration on the pitch was somewhat muted perhaps suggesting at his frustration at the lack of goals. He previously spent loan spells at Atletico Madrid but does have 56 goals across over 120 appearances at Lyon.

The former Celtic star and his colleagues face a huge fight to qualify for Europe next season. They currently sit ninth in the Ligue 1 standings and are eight points behind Rennes in fifth spot.

Next up is a trip to Angers before a French Cup quarter-final clash with Grenoble Foot 38.
