Moussa Dembele can prove Zinedine Zidane right with Manchester United transfer

Moussa Dembele was tipped for the very top by France icon Zinedine Zidane during the striker's Celtic days and could finally achieve that lofty prediction should Manchester United get their man.

United are considering a swoop for Dembele, 26, before the summer window closes and remain in discussions with his representatives over a potential transfer. Currently with Lyon, the player has long-since been mooted as a target for the Old Trafford giants and that prospect appears closer than it has ever been previously.

Dembele has 12 months to run on his contract with Lyon. He has scored 67 goals in 144 matches for the French side after initially forging his reputation during spells at Fulham and Celtic.

Several clubs are monitoring Dembele while the frontman is understood to have turned down Everton this summer amid further interest from Villarreal and other European teams. Sources close to Dembele suggest he will only move to the 'right club' and on terms which suit his ongoing development.

His career record stands at roughly one goal every two games and, while bursting on to the European scene during a successful two-year spell with Celtic, the former PSG graduate impressed then-Real Madrid manager Zidane as he tipped Dembele to become one of the world's best strikers.

But could he match that sky-high billing following a would-be transfer to United?

Zidane said: "I have played with the greatest strikers; Ronaldo, Henry, Raul. You knew on the biggest occasions they would win you games - and Dembele is already showing that. I do understand the biggest clubs in Europe are being linked with him and it will be his destination eventually, but my advice for now is ignore it all."
