Mouse filmed scurrying around tables at Glasgow cafe before it was ordered to close

A video has emerged showing a mouse scurrying around a Glasgow music venue before it was ordered to close after an environmental health visit.

The footage, filmed on May 26, shows the mouse scrambling around the floor in between tables at the 13th Note café on King Street.

Venue bosses were told to shut down on Tuesday (June 6) after inspectors found inadequate pest control procedures and "mouse droppings" throughout the food premises.

According to the Daily Record, Glasgow City Council environmental health inspectors issued a remedial action notice after receiving a hygiene complaint.

A Glasgow City Council spokesperson said: "Our environmental health officers carried out an inspection of The 13th Note today after receiving a complaint. Officers issued a remedial action notice which prevents operation of the business until matters of cleanliness and mice infestation have been addressed."

It comes after a trade union claims 95 per cent of staff filed a collective grievance with 13th Note bosses over several allegations, including mice infestation. Unite Hospitality further accused owners of ignoring concerns over sanitation, health and safety and staff contracts in March.

In May frustrated workers staged a sit-in, demanding a response to their grievance.

Last week, kitchen staff walked out amid fears they could be injured at work by faulty equipment.

It is understood cafe owner Jacqueline Fennessy has confirmed that staff will be paid in full while the venue is deep-cleaned. Ms Fennessy was contacted for comment.

Bryan Simpson, Unite Hospitality lead organiser, said: “Had Jacqueline Fennessy actually listened to the 95 per cent of her workforce that told her over three months ago that there were serious health and safety issues then we wouldn’t be in this situation.

"We are pleased that Ms Fennessy has now confirmed that all workers will be paid in full during the deep clean and repair that must take place."
