Motorists are being given advance warning of resurfing works that will shut the busy M8 motorway through Lanarkshire for five nights.
BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, is set to resurface 1.3 kilometres of the M8 westbound main carriageway ahead of Junction 6 Newhouse.
To allow for resurfacing works to be carried out safely, the M8 westbound between Junction 5 and Junction 7 will close between 8.30pm and 6am on September 28, 29 and 30 and again on October 3 and 4.
To minimise disruption, no work will take place on weekends.
A clearly signed diversion route will be in place for westbound traffic, directing motorists off the M8 at Junction 5 Shotts and along the B7066, before re-joining the M8 at Junction 7 Eurocentral. The diversion will add approximately five minutes and 7.7 miles to affected journeys.
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, told Lanarkshire Live : “These surfacing improvements will improve the road quality and safety for motorists on this section of the M8.
“Carriageway closures are essential for the safety of workers and motorists, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise any disruption.
“We will do all we can to complete the project as quickly as possible and thank motorists in advance for their patience.”
