A 65-year-old man who died after his motorbike was involved in a collision in the Highlands has been named as Andrew McIntyre.
The Inverness-shire biker was tragically pronounced dead at the scene of the fatal smash after his BMW GS and a grey Citroen C3 collided on the A835 a mile east of the village of Garve, 10 miles west of Dingwall. The 53-year-old female driver of the Citroen was treated at the scene by ambulance crews but did not require further treatment.
The road was closed for seven hours after the crash, which happened at around 11.10am on Saturday April 15. Following the tragedy police have issued an appeal for information in order to ascertain the full circumstances of the collision.
In particular, police want to speak to another motorcyclist who is said to have stopped at the scene to provide assistance, but left prior to police arriving. Anyone who saw either vehicle in the moments before the crash, or who may have dashcam footage from around the time, is asked to contact officers as soon as possible.
Sergeant Doug Scott, of the Highland and Islands Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with Mr McIntyre’s family and friends at this difficult time. Our investigation to establish what led to this collision is ongoing and I would urge anyone with information to get in touch if you haven’t yet spoken to an officer.
“Our enquiries so far suggest that some other motorcyclist initially stopped at the scene to assist but they left prior to police arriving. We would be keen to speak to them as they may be able to help with our enquiries.
“We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have seen either vehicle or who has dashcam footage prior to the collision. Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting 1270 of 15 April.”
