Motorcyclist sustains life-changing injuries in crash that closed Briton Ferry Bridge

A motorcyclist has sustained "life-changing injuries" in a crash with a car in Briton Ferry, police have confirmed. The incident occurred shortly before 4.10pm on Tuesday, June 14 at the Earlswood Interchange at the junction of the A48 Briton Ferry Bridge and the A483 Fabian Way.

The bridge was shut in both directions from the Briton Ferry Roundabout on the A474 Neath Road to the M4 at junction 42 for Swansea East and Briton Ferry and nearby roads were closed for several hours whilst police, paramedics and the air ambulance attended the scene. South Wales Police has now confirmed the collision involved a black Yamaha motorcycle and a black Porsche Cayenne car and the rider of the motorcycle, a man aged 56 from the Aberdare area, was taken to the University Hospital of Wales for emergency care. His injuries have been categorised as "life-changing".

South Wales Police has confirmed the collision "remains under investigation" and officers are now appealing for witnesses, or anyone with dash-cam footage or other information on the crash, to get in touch. For more stories about South Wales Police, go here.

The latest statement from South Wales Police, issued on Wednesday morning, says: "We are appealing for witnesses following a collision between a black Yamaha motorcycle and a black Porsche Cayenne which happened shortly before 4.10pm on [Tuesday] June 14 at the Earlswood Interchange, the junction of A48 Briton Ferry bridge and the A483 Fabian Way.

"The rider of the motorcycle, a 56-year-old man from the Aberdare area was taken to the University Hospital of Wales having sustained life changing injuries.

"We wish to thank members of the public who assisted at scene and for their patience during the road closures.

"Officers investigating the incident want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or have any dash-cam footage of the involved vehicles prior to the collision quoting reference: 2200 199 295. Please go to [this page of our website]."
