Motorcyclist injured in crash at junction of Filton Avenue and Wessex Avenue

A motorcyclist was taken to hospital following a crash between a car and a motorbike at a busy junction in Bristol yesterday. Avon and Somerset Police were called to a road traffic collision at 10pm (October 8), at the junction of Filton Avenue and Wessex Avenue in Horfield.

The rider was taken to hospital by ambulance and the road was clear, police say, by around 11.25pm. Local residents have described hearing a loud bang or crashing sound at around 10pm, before being 'startled' by the blue flashing lights of an ambulance and police car at the traffic lights.

They added that a group of motorcyclists, some of whom seemed to be delivery drivers as they had boxes on the back of their bikes, were stood in a group on the pavement, just next to the lights. A flatbed truck was at the scene for a time, as were a couple of people on bicycles.

Locals described seeing orange fences placed in the centre of the crossroads, while a police officer directed traffic around the area and an ambulance crew worked at the scene. The fences were placed into the back of the flatbed truck later in the evening - this same flatbed truck was used to collect a damaged motorbike, which locals described as being 'in pieces'.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called at 10.02pm to a RTC between a car and motorbike at the junction of Filton Avenue and Wessex Avenue. A motorcyclist was taken to hospital by ambulance service. The road was clear at about 11.25pm." Bristol Live has contacted South West Ambulance Service for more details.
