Motorcyclist dies in smash on A82 as police issue appeal for information

A 51-year-old man died in a smash between his motorbike and a car on a Highland road on Tuesday.

The crash at around 12.10pm involved a Ducati motorbike and a red MG SUV-style car. Police, fire service and ambulance crews rushed to the scene and closed the A82 road at Invermoriston, near Fort Augustus, for almost seven hours while investigative work took place.

Drivers were sent on a 120-mile diversion around the east side of Loch Ness as officers examined the scene. Images from the site of the crash showed yellow evidence markers in the road around the spot of the collision.

The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have confirmed that no-one else was injured. Cops investigating the circumstances of the crash have now issued an appeal to members of the public who may have seen either vehicle prior to the fatal collision to review their dashcams.

Officers hope that dashboard cameras may have picked up footage that could provide vital clues as to how the incident occurred. Sergeant David Miller, of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased at this very difficult time.

“I would ask anyone who saw the vehicles immediately prior to the crash to come forward. I would also ask anyone who with dash-cam footage who was in the area around the time of the crash to check their footage and provide anything relevant to us as soon as possible.

“Those with information should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1362 of 19 July.”
