Motorcyclist dies following two-vehicle crash as police appeal for witnesses

A MOTORCYCLIST has died following a two-vehicle crash in North Lanarkshire as police appeal for information.

The collision, which involved a blue Yamaha YZF R1 motorcycle and a red Ford Focus car, happened around 4.25pm on Monday on the A775 Edinburgh Road in Motherwell. 

Emergency services attended but the 37-year-old man who was riding the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car, a 59-year-old man, was not injured.

Police are appealing for information about the crash which happened near the junction for Biggar Road.

The road was closed while the police carried out their investigation and it reopened about 11.25pm on Monday.

Sergeant Nick Twigg said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died.

“Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and anyone who can assist is asked to get in touch.

“If you were driving near the area at the time, and have not already spoken to police, or have dashcam that could assist, then please make contact with officers.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2476 of Monday September 16.
