Quote of the day by Simon Cowell: Simon Cowell’s famous quote, “Failures aren’t great to go through, but you learn from them,” takes a plain view of something most people would rather avoid. Failure can mean losing a job opportunity, making the wrong decision, ending a relationship or watching a project fall short after months of effort. The immediate reaction is often disappointment, especially when other people can see the result but not everything that went into it.
Before television talent shows made Simon Cowell a household name, his primary venture in the music business ended in financial collapse. Born in London in 1959 to a music executive father and a former ballet dancer mother, Cowell left Dover College at 16. He entered the industry through the EMI Music Publishing mailroom, working his way up to assistant talent scout. By 1985, he co-founded Fanfare Records. The independent label achieved initial traction, but by 1989 it had folded completely. Facing severe financial difficulty, Cowell moved back into his parents' home at age 30.
