Motherwell have announced that their scheduled match against St Mirren tomorrow has been postponed due to "extensive stadium damage and flooding".
The club told supporters the match would be rescheduled after freezing temperatures caused damage at Fir Park.
A statement on the Motherwell website revealed three of the four stands have been without running water or heating in spectator zones with toilets completely frozen after temperatures plummeted to as low as -12 degrees.
Most of the pipework affected remains frozen with some pipes bursting after starting to thaw. The burst water pipes have contributed to flooding damage which would be "impossible to fix and make safe" ahead of the Scottish Premiership fixture.
Motherwell notified the SPFL of the concerns over safety ahead of the match before the fixture was postponed on safety grounds.
It is a blow for supporters who were desperate to return to domestic football after the world cup break and also for Motherwell with a sold out hospitality crowd and large attendance expected for the match.
Motherwell chief executive Alan Burrows commented: “It is extremely frustrating for everyone involved to have this off, particularly with a sold out hospitality and a big crowd expected in both the home and away stands.
“The staff at the club have been working hard with contractors all week to try and get ahead of this issue.
"However, the damage that we’ve sustained, and will take when it thaws further, is extensive and it will take us some time to fix and clean up ahead of next weekend’s match against Kilmarnock.
“We would like to apologise to any supporter who is inconvenienced by this announcement.”
The club statement added: "A date for the re-arranged match will be notified in due course. Fans who have bought tickets, but are unable to make the re-arranged match, will be reimbursed."
