Motherwell's Premiership clash with St Mirren is OFF after Fir Park suffered damage due to freezing temperatures.
Steven Hammell's men were due to take on Stephen Robinson's side as the Premiership action restarts after a month-long break for the World Cup. But plummeting temperatures have caused pipes to freeze, areas of the stadium to flood and the pitch left unplayable just over 24 hours before the game was due to kick-off.
Fans who had bought tickets for the match will be reimbursed and a new date will be confirmed in due course. The Steelmen, whoo played Spurs in a bounce match last week in preparation for action resuming, will now have to wait in order to try and end a three-match winless run which saw them lose to Hearts and Celtic and draw with St Johnstone before the league action took a back seat before the end of November.
'Well chief executive Alan Burrows said: “It is extremely frustrating for everyone involved to have this off, particularly with a sold out hospitality and a big crowd expected in both the home and away stands.
“The staff at the club have been working hard with contractors all week to try and get ahead of this issue. However, the damage that we’ve sustained, and will take when it thaws further, is extensive and it will take us some time to fix and clean up ahead of next weekend’s match against Kilmarnock.
“We would like to apologise to any supporter who is inconvenienced by this announcement.”
