Sixteen-year-old Lennon Miller made history last night after becoming the youngest-ever player to feature for Motherwell in their 136-year history.
And Motherwell boss Steven Hammell insists fans are about to see a lot more of the talented teen midfielder.
The Coltness High School pupil - the son of former Scotland international Lee Miller - came on as a 79th minute substitute for Callum Slattery in the Steelmen's 4-0 Premier Sports Cup last 16 victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Fir Park.
His debut came just six days after he celebrated his 16th birthday and Motherwell gaffer Steven Hammell insisted his debut would have come much earlier if not for SPFL rules dictating no-one under the age of 16 feature in senior football.
Hammell told BBC Radio Scotland: "I'm fully aware of what Lennon can do, I've known him for years and years.
"He only turned 16 last week and if that age restriction wasn't there we would have seen him as a 15-year-old.
"He would have potentially have come on against Kilmarnock [on Saturday] if the game had been slightly different.
"It's not a gesture to play a young boy. As you seen when he came on the pitch, he's a fantastic young player and he will compliment and compete with the squad we've got.
"We will see more of him this season."
Leeds United loanee Stuart McKinstry also made his debut in the win, making his first-ever outing for the senior side after coming through the club's academy under Hammell.
And 4left-back Matt Penney impressed during in his first appearance since a loan move from Ipswich Town last week.
The 24-year-old started the game and his cross led to Inverness' Danny Devine turning the ball into his own net.
Hammell was delighted with Penney's overall performance and said:: "Matt looked great, he looked composed, assured, he was getting forward and he put together some great numbers.
"He had an assist for the goal and I think he's actually claiming one of them so it was a really positive performance.
"He's a good player, we are really happy to have him and I think there is more to come from him."
