Motherwell's Stuart McKinstry sympathises with boo boys and says players will do all they can to lift form

Motherwell winger Stuart McKinstry has sat in the stands of Fir Park himself as a fan, so he admits he can sympathise with the supporters who booed his side off the pitch yesterday after surrendering the lead to Ross County late on.

The Leeds United loanee looked to have fired the Steelmen to a vital victory with his 68th minute strike but Motherwell switched off at a County throw in 10 minutes from time, allowing Jordy Hiwula Mayifuila to net just seconds after he came off the substitutes bench.

It means Motherwell are ninth and remain just three points ahead of rock bottom Staggies, while being locked level on points with Dundee United and Kilmarnock.

Relegation is a real fear for the fans now and they let their feelings be known at the full-time whistle, with Steven Hammell's side on a run of eight games without a win and the Fir Park faithful haven't seen their side win at home since August in a 1-0 triumph over Livingston.

McKinstry, who hails from Wishaw, said: "I've been there before. I've sat in the stand myself and I know what it feels like to lose games, how frustrating it can be.

"The fans pay their money to come and watch us and when we are not performing and winning games, they have got every right to be frustrated with us.

"We just need to do everything we can to repay them and show that, as a team, we can make them happy in the stands.

"It has not been easy at the moment but we know what we can do.

"We can't sit and moan about it. We need to take responsibility and go and show we can win games.

"It isn't happening right now but we need to start doing it.

"I thought when we got our goal we should have easily gone on and got the three points.

"But it's some poor defending from the team and we've conceded.

"It seems difficult for us to see games out when we've got the chance to.

"It is something as a team we need to try and improve on."

On conceding the goal, he added: "It has cost us three points at the end of the day so it is a massive moment.

"We do everything we can in the whole game and that one little chance ruins everything for us so it is difficult to take.

"As a team we know that, but it is becoming a broken record now because we are saying this every week now.

"I hit the post and the keeper made a good save as well. It wasn't an easy game with the conditions as well but we seem not to be getting much luck at the moment."
