Motherwell's focus in World Cup break will be Louis Moult's fitness, admits boss Steven Hammell

Boss Steven Hammell says a big part of Motherwell's plans during the World Cup break will be to get striker Louis Moult up to full fitness.

The Englishman played the full 90 minutes in Motherwell's 1-1 draw at St Johnstone on Saturday, which was his first start in seven appearances for the Steelmen since his return to the club in August.

There were flashes of the Moult magic that used to enthrall the Fir Park faithful during his first spell, as his quick feet in the box created a good opportunity in the second half and he had an effort palmed away which strike partner Kevin van Veen almost turned home.

Moult's return to Fir Park hasn't gone according to plan so far but the coaching staff and fans alike will hope the break will allow their deadline day signing to get up to full speed.

Asked if getting Moult fit will be a big focus during the shutdown, Hammell said: "It is. He will refresh and recharge.

"If we had another game coming up, he probably would have come off.

"But the fact he has this time to recover now is good and he is someone we want to use more and more oftenn.

"I think you saw glimpses of that against St Johnstone.

"What he brings, especially with Kevin, is another option for us.

"To have that option is good because the options we have are limited and on another day, I think him or Kevin might have scored."
