Motherwell retained list confirmed as cult hero leaves Fir Park and manager sends message to departing stars

Motherwell have confirmed the out of contract players who will leave the club at the end of their current deals.

Liam Grimshaw has spent five-and-a-half seasons at Fir Park across two spell and accumulated 130 matches in claret and amber, but will depart after first-team opportunities proved limited over the last year.

Liam Donnelly will also leave. The Northern Irish International has appeared 70 times over four years while fellow midfielder Mark O'Hara also departs after signing a pre-contract at St Mirren.

Darragh O’Connor, Justin Amaluzor, Jordan Roberts, PJ Morrison, Victor Nirennold and youngster Cody McLeod are also departing ML1 while Liam Shaw will return to his parent club Celtic when his loan ends early next month.

Ricki Lamie meanwhile has been offered an extended contract, despite signing a pre-agreement with Dundee. A clause in that negotiation could see the defender walk away from it after the Dark Blues' relegation to the Championship.

Manager Graham Alexander said: “The likes of Liam Grimshaw, Liam Donnelly and Mark O’Hara have been in our first-team for extended periods, so I want to pay particular tribute to them.

"Although Grimmy didn’t feature as much as he would like for me, he was always a fantastic professional and trained hard every single day and that says a lot about the type of person he is.

“Any time Liam or Mark featured they gave everything, so I want to thank them both too. PJ Morrison has also been with the club from a very young age, but we both agreed he needed to kick his career on by playing regularly every week.

“Everyone leaving have made their mark in some way, big or small, and we wish them well for the future careers, wherever that takes them.”

It was a successful season for the Fir Park club in the Premiership as they finished fifth and secured European football for next term.

Their Europa Conference League campaign kicks off in July at the second qualifying round.
