Kevin van Veen praised his Motherwell team-mates for carrying him through their 3-1 win over Hibs at Easter Road, after feeling like sh**.
But the Dutch striker says he’s confident he can hit another 10 goals after notching his 20th of the season with a double in the Edinburgh romp.
And he says if his team-mates are feeling below-par, it will be his turn to dig them out in future.
Van Veen, who scored a penalty and a free kick in the Easter Road win, adding to Sean Goss’ spectacular free kick, said: “It was a massive win and the team was amazing.
“I felt like sh** today, I felt horrendous. It was one of those days, I was just lethargic.
“I have a lot going on in my personal life outside football. I’ve got some stuff that I had to deal with, and it was one of those days when I felt lethargic, and low on energy.
“It felt a bit like I was carrying a backpack.
“I have to give credit to every single one of them for carrying me through the game.
“If it’s someone else feeling like that next week, if I feel good I have to carry him through it.
“We are a unit and we are working for each other. This was a massive win, it was a good feeling to get three points.”
Van Veen was perhaps fortunate to see his 52nd-minute penalty squirm under keeper David Marshall who guessed the right way, but there was no doubting the accuracy of his free kick which arrowed into the right corner of the net with nine minutes left.
He said: “It was great to get 20 goals. If I’m being a perfectionist I should maybe have scored one more, and the penalty was not great.
“It was a terrible penalty. I never go there, and I tried to do something different and it didn’t work out – luckily for me it went in.
“With the free-kick I know I’ve got that in my locker.
“I feel good, apart from [today]. I’m confident, and I love playing for this club.
“Hopefully I can keep it going.
“There are eight games left, so I am hitting another 10 goals! I am that confident.
“You need to believe in yourself. Hopefully I score as many as possible.”
Van Veen has a lot of time for previous boss Stevie Hammell, but says Stuart Kettlewell has made a major impact since replacing him.
“He has changed our fortunes,” he said.
“I’ve nothing bad to say about the previous manager – sometimes it just doesn’t work out.
“But every single one of us has impressed, and is putting in that extra five or 10 per cent more for the gaffer.
“That’s wrong to say from me, because we all worked hard for the old gaffer and we loved it, and I have a really good bond with him.
“But for the way we set up and how organised we are, a lot of credit has to go to the gaffer and his staff.
“Hopefully we can keep it going as a team and a club.”
