Motherwell chief executive debunks Tony Watt bust-up as he 'should've acted better'

Motherwell chief executive Alan Burrows says an incident with Tony Watt has been cleared up after a match with Dundee United.

Watt enjoyed an excellent first half of the season and was Motherwell's top scorer prior to a Tannadice move last month.

The striker angered 'Well fans after signing a pre-contract with Dundee United and he netted his first goal in Tangerine since the move in a 2-0 win over his former club on Wednesday.

By celebrating with his fingers stuck in his ears, Watt angered the away support some more in Tayside - and Burrows admitted he got his own reaction wrong too.

But things have been sorted after a clash near the tunnel at Tannadice. Motherwell are fifth in the Premiership and without a league win in 2022.

He said on social media: “Ach, I didn’t give him abuse at all mate, it was a complete storm in a teacup and we shook hands after the game.

“Tony and I have always got on very well. I let myself down a wee bit and should’ve acted better than I did, but was a bit (over) emotional about some things.”
