Motherwell boss Stevie Hammell has revealed that striker Louis Moult is seeking medical advice, and admits the loan move from Burton Albion hasn't gone as he had hoped.
However, he is still hopeful of seeing the 30-year-old return to fitness, having missed recent games against Celtic and Rangers.
Hammell said: "He's seeing someone and it's a disappointing one, because we wanted him to come and do really well for us and it's not played out like that so far. Hopefully that changes, soon."
Kevin van Veen took a knock towards the end of this evening's 4-0 Premier Sports Cup quarter-final defeat at home to Celtic, but Hammell hopes his talisman is fit for the visit of Aberdeen on Saturday.
He said: "Kevin hopefully is OK. We're at pretty much the bare bones just now, we've got a lot of players not at 100 per cent and we've got two or three missing, which is not ideal, because we need everyone for games like that and the ones we've got coming up.
"We need to be as close to full as we can, in terms of squad and personnel, and I'm not sure that's going to change in the next period of time.
"Saturday is a huge game, it puts a little bit more emphasis on it. Our full focus was on this game but the magnitude of that game, a home game... our form at home hasn't been as we wanted it to be so far this season, so we're fully aware of how big a game that is."
