Motherwell boss Graham Alexander insists red card against Hibs wasn't merited

Motherwell boss Graham Alexander insists he didn't say anything worse than any other manager in football when he was sent off during Wednesday's 0-0 draw with Hibs.

Alexander was shown a straight red by referee Andrew Dallas shortly after midfielder Liam Donnelly was sent packing for two bookable offences in the Premiership stalemate.

The Fir Park boss insists he didn't cross any boundaries or say anything malicious, but says he will look at how he behaved.

But former Scotland international Alexander would like clarity on what repercussions - if any - that he faces after being sent to the stands.

Ahead of tomorrow's trip to face third-placed Hearts at Tynecastle, Alexander said: "I'm concentrating on tomorrow, that's the biggest thing for me. I said how I felt, and you can't change or help how you feel, it's there inside you.

"It's a passionate game, I'm honest with my opinions, but I'm concentrating on tomorrow, now. The biggest thing for me is the next game.

"I don't know what the repercussions are [for myself], I'm waiting to hear, and it would be good to speak to somebody about it, if possible.

"I was shouting, and I did swear. I pretty much shout and swear in every game - and every training session, possibly - and I see every other manager shouting and swearing, not just in Scotland but all over the place.

"I'm 50 years old - I've sworn a lot over my life, to be honest, for a lot of years.

"I believe that I try to stay within the boundaries; I don't ever accuse anybody of anything malicious, I doubt if the referee could hear me from where he was, to be honest - that's the reality.

"But I always try to look at myself as well and how I could do things better - I think that's important.

"There are responsibilities as a manager, as a professional, as a player, all those sorts of things, so I do look at that as well.

"I don't believe I crossed the line to warrant a red card the other night, I'm just being honest there, but that's where we are.

"We have to crack on, life's not perfect."

Motherwell will now be without Donnelly for the trip to the capital as he sits out a one-game ban, but Alexander said: "We have to crack on. We still have enough good players to carry on."
