Cinemama Film Festival 2026 is screening mother-themed movies from across the world at SFX Cinema Central Ladprao from today until Aug 16.
The five-day programme starts today at 3pm with The Story Of Nampu (1984). Directed by Euthana Mukdasanit, the movie follows a mother (Patravadi Mejudhon) and her teenage son Nampu (Amphol Lampoon) who succumbs to drugs. It is based on the true story by acclaimed writer Suwanee Sukhontha.
At 7pm today is All About My Mother (1999). Directed by Pedro Almodóvar, the drama revolves around Manuela (Cecilia Roth) who returns to Barcelona to contact her long-estranged husband following the death of their teenage son. She reunites with an old friend, a transgender sex worker, and meets a troubled actress and a pregnant, HIV-positive nun.
At 2pm on Thursday is Sheep In The Box (2026). Hirokazu Koreeda's sci-fi drama follows grieving couple Otone (Haruka Ayase) and Kensuke (Daigo Yamamoto), who bring home a humanoid robot in place of their lost son Kakeru (Rimu Kuwai).
At 6pm on the same day is Kim Ji-young: Born 1982 (2019). Directed by Kim Do-young, the novel-inspired film follows Kim Ji-young (Jung Yu-mi), an everywoman in her 30s, who begins to impersonate her late mother, elder sister and other women.
Screening at 2pm on Friday is If I'd Legs I'd Kick You (2025). Directed by Mary Bronstein, the story of motherhood follows Linda (Rose Byrne) who tackles her daughter's illness, her absent husband, a missing person and a hostile relationship with her therapist.
At 6pm on Friday evening is Tokyo Tower: Mom And Me And Sometimes Dad (2007). Joji Matsuoka's coming-of-age drama portrays the relationship between Masaya (Joe Odagiri) and his cancer-stricken mother (Kirin Kiki).
Don't worry if you miss some of them. All About My Mother and Sheep In The Box will screen again at 2pm and 6pm on Saturday. Tokyo Tower: Mom And Me And Sometimes Dad and The Story of Nampu will be shown at 2pm and 6pm on Sunday.
