The Criminal Court on Monday sentenced a 30-year-old woman who forced her daughter into prostitution to a long term in prison.

The woman was identified publically only by her first name, Lucksana, 30, from Phetchabun province.

The court sentenced her initially to 15 years on charges including coercing a child into providing sexual services, and human trafficking. The sentences were commuted by half to seven years and six months because she confessed during the court proceedings.

The woman was convicted of forcing her daughter, then aged 12, into the sex trade between June and September last year by leaving her with a massage parlour owner in Tokyo.

The girl sought help from the Tokyo Regional Immigration Services Bureau in mid-September and she is now under the care of the Pavena Hongsakun Foundation.

Her mother left Japan to Taiwan in September last year and was arrested in New Taipei City in November for overstaying, and extradited to Thailand in December.

The court said the woman had never committed any criminal offences before she was arrested and her travel records showed she previously worked overseas as a masseuse.
