A woman has died in a house fire that also hospitalised two children in the NSW Central Tablelands.
Emergency services were called to the home in Pimpala Place, Orange just before 6am on Saturday after reports of a family trapped inside.
The woman was retrieved from the building but was unable to be revived.
The ABC understands her 10-year-old and 9-year-old sons were rescued by Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) from within the building.
They were treated at the scene by paramedics for the effects of smoke inhalation, and are now being treated at Orange Base Hospital.
Police say the children's father escaped the blaze but suffered burns when he tried to re-enter the property.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
A crime scene has been established, and investigators will enter the building when it is "deemed safe", police said.
"This is a tragedy that will be fully investigated," Superintendent Adam Newberry from FRNSW said.
"FRNSW are unable to comment on the details around this fire, however, there is at least one action everyone can take immediately to be safer in their home.
"That is to make sure you have a working smoke alarm fitted on all levels that is less than 10 years old."
Superintendent Newberry said 45 per cent of home fires responded to did not have a working smoke alarm.
