Most stocks climbed on Tuesday, buoyed by falling oil prices and strong corporate earnings. However, chipmakers continued to drop.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 1.10%, while the S&P 500 climbed 0.28%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 0.22% after software stocks rose, offsetting continued losses from chipmakers.
