August has been revealed as the most popular month of the year for Irish couples to tie the knot.
According to figures released by the CSO, weddings in 2021 almost doubled compared to 2020 as Covid-19 rules were relaxed.
A total of 16,717 opposite sex couples got married last year. The average age of brides was 35.4 years of age while grooms averaged 37.4 years.

500 same-sex couples got married in 2021. The average age of grooms was 40.4 years old while brides averaged 39.9 years.
August was the most popular month for weddings last year, with 2,547 weddings taking place.
The number of weddings rose later in the year as Covid-19 restrictions eased, with 1/3 of all 2021 marriages happening in October, November and December.
Unsurprisingly, January was the least popular month, with only 521 couples getting married then.
Commenting on the figures, Statistician Gerard Doolan said: "Friday and Saturday continue to be the most popular days to tie the knot for opposite-sex couples, while Friday, followed by Thursday were the most favoured days to wed for same-sex couples.
"These are unchanged from 2020 results. Sundays and Tuesdays were the least popular days of the week to marry for all couples."
