Most Of Australia Hit With Hot As Balls Heatwave As Temperatures Set To Reach The High 40s

If you were wondering why it’s hot as balls today it’s because Australia is currently experiencing a heatwave, with some parts of the country expected to hit temperatures over 47°C.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, temperatures across the country are sitting at a whopping 12 to 16 °C above average. In coastal areas, this means temperatures this week will hit around 30°C but inland, thermometers are climbing up to the low 40°C mark.

With temperatures rising to dangerous levels, the Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe-to-extreme heatwave warning for those residing up north in Alice Springs, and in northern and western Queensland where the high 40 °C temperatures are expected.

While it’s not as bad down south, it’s still expected to be fkn sweltering.

“Some areas in western NSW could approach December records, with temperatures at 46C or 47C,” Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Dean Narramore said.

With the high temperatures and windy weather, Narramore says the fire danger is pretty damn high, with South Australia’s Mount Lofty ranges and western and central Victoria under extreme fire dangers.

“These hot, dry, windy conditions are likely to lead to extreme fire dangers,” Narramore said.

“That means that if fires do get going in this weather, they’re likely to be uncontrollable and uncontainable.”

While the hot horrors continue for the northern part of the country for at least a week, for those down in the southern states, a cool change is expected to hit between Monday and Tuesday.

Although heatwaves can sound like a good excuse to chuck a sickie and head to the beach, don’t forget that they can be extremely dangerous and put your health at risk. Make sure to stay hydrated and cool, doing your best to stay out of the sun.
