Death row inmates' bizarre last meal choices revealed, from greasy fast food to cups of coffee

In the final moments in the life of a death row inmate, prisoners are allowed to skip the meals eaten by others in jail and pick any delicacy before their date with death.

Some choose a juicy steak, while others opt for a greasy burger and chips before they receive the lethal injection or- as in the case of some states-a firing squad.

Not everyone chooses what others would considers fine dining, with some inmates instead going for a dessert or even a cup of coffee, the Daily Star reported.

In 2007 inmate Phillip Workman, sentenced to death for killing a police officer, demanded his vegetarian pizza be given to a homeless person in Nashville, Tennessee.

The kind offer backfired however when the prison denied his request.

In honour of Workman, people from all over the country donated a huge number of vegetarian pizzas out of respect for his decision to make his final act one of kindness.

Charities donated pizzas and individuals and activist Donna Spangler grouped together with friends to organise almost £1,000 worth of pizzas to be sent.

She said: "Philip Workman was trying to do a good deed and no one would help him."

Serial killer Aileen Wuornos - inspiration for the 2003 Oscar-winning film Monster - was executed in 2002.

She did not have a huge appetite before she was executed and chose to just have a cup of coffee before being put to death by lethal injection.

Another prisoner, Timothy McVeigh, the man behind the infamous Oklahoma City bombing, requested to have two pints of mint chocolate chip ice cream as his last meal.

He was sentenced for 168 counts of murder and died aged 33.

Some people, however, wanted a feast fit for a king.

Notorious John Wayne Gacy, also known as the Killer Clown, dined on a bucket of original recipe KFC, 12 fried shrimp, a pound of strawberries and some french fries before he received a lethal injection.

He was sentenced to death for rape and 33 counts of murder.

In South Carolina, Richard Bernard Moore, who has been imprisoned since 1999, is due to be executed by a firing squad following a fatal robbery shooting in a convenience store that went horribly wrong.

Twenty years later, Moore maintains he didn’t bring the gun with him.

Moore believes the man he killed died from a gunshot wound caused during the fight between them.

He also thinks the gun belonged to his victim, James Mahoney, Daily Star reported.

However, Moore was given the choice between the firing squad or the electric chair, choosing the gun due to wanting the execution over quickly.

Moore's execution has been delayed as some states have been unable to get their hands on the lethal injection drugs used in executions because pharmaceutical companies are refusing to sell to them.
