Morrissey fans 'gutted' after Nottingham gig cancelled and demand explanation

Morrissey fans are "gutted" after the star cancelled his sold-out Nottingham gig. The 'Girlfriend in a Coma' singer had been due to appear at the Royal Concert Hall last night (July 9) but the show was off "due to unforeseen circumstances."

Morrissey had performed in Portsmouth the day before and he is set to go ahead with a date in Leeds on Wednesday. Fans took to Twitter to vent, demanding an explanation and saying they were gutted.

"Could at least give an explanation. Not acceptable cancelling this late notice unless illness," said @sp_morrissey. Another fan @agw79 posted: "Absolutely gutted. It was my 11 year old son’s first time hoping to see his idol in his home town."

@andy_treble1999 wrote: "Any chance of an explanation seeing that the Leeds show is unaffected? Poor effort once again,at least the cancelled James gig was fully explained by the band."

@bearshenanigans wrote: "Are those circumstances “being Morrissey”? Does anyone cancel more gigs?"

Some like @bjwilk969 had booked hotels for the night. @the_snowman_1 commented: "He never changes. Very late announcement, " while @Howard76768115 tweeted: "What is unforeseen less than 24 hours before?? "unforeseen" doesn't refund hotel rooms, train tickets etc."

@power2transfor1 only found out by chance after looking on Twitter: "We were nearly on our way to Nottingham. I only received emails from Ticketmaster reminding me of the gig tonight. No cancellation email. If I hadn’t looked on Twitter and searched for Morrissey I wouldn’t have known."

The Royal Concert Hall tweeted: Due to unforeseen circumstances, Morrissey’s show tonight will not be going ahead. Ticket holders are asked to hold onto their tickets and a further announcement will be made in due course. We apologise for any inconvenience."

@Stephen14265175 wasn't the only person to quip: "However, #RickAstley is available and might do a better job."
