Morrisons, Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's petrol pumps charging drivers £99 holding fee - rules explained

Twelve months ago a holding fee at petrol stations was introduced nationwide. Supermarkets rolled out the change which was enforced by VISA and Mastercard.

Those paying for fuel at a pump will be charged a £99 holding fee - a big jump from the previous £1 charge imposed on drivers. The holding fee was announced as a security measure and affects pumps at grocers such as Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury's.

This method of a holding fee is already general practice in Europe. Supermarkets have explained that the temporary holding fee will be placed on your account, but only the actual charge of the fuel will be deducted from your account, The Mirror reports.
