Morocco World Cup star told why he needs to sign for Manchester United in January

Moroccan World Cup semi-finalist Hakim Ziyech has been urged to push through a move to Manchester United in January to revive his club career.

The winger has helped his country become the first African nation to reach the semi-finals of a World Cup following historic wins over Belgium, Spain and Portugal en route to the last four. He has a goal and an assist to his name in Qatar and will hope to help his side pull off another huge win against champions France on Wednesday.

After making a 2020 switch from Erik ten Hag’s Ajax to Chelsea, Ziyech has not had the much game time at Stamford Bridge this season. Despite being a regular under Frank Lampard and lifting the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel, Ziyech struggled to find consistency last term.

He started just 27 of the 44 matches he featured in although still bagged eight goals and registered six assists. However, after largely falling out of favour under Tuchel this campaign, Graham Potter is yet to show trust in the player either.

The 29-year-old has started just one of the six matches he’s played under his new boss and has been limited to late substitute appearances in the others. United were linked with Ziyech over the summer although Ten Hag has admitted that he is looking for a striker in January, and not necessarily a winger especially after splurging £85m on Antony in the summer.

However, former Morocco international Mustafa El Haddaoui nevertheless believes Ziyech should still try and link up with his old boss at Old Trafford. Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, he said: “Now we’re seeing Hakim’s potential, we can see what he’s capable of. He has a lot to offer.

“He needs to leave Chelsea and go to Manchester United, because the former Ajax manager [Ten Hag] wanted him. He will bounce back, but he needs to leave Chelsea during the winter transfer market.”
