Bristol City Council has revealed that it is working closely with Avon and Somerset Police after temporary road changes to East Street in Bedminster led to large numbers of drivers being fined.
Police officers issued 22 tickets in one day to people driving down the street on March 23, according to the council. In addition, the council says it has issued 123 fines along the route for parking offences in the three months following the introduction of traffic restrictions.
Parking is currently not allowed at any time on East Street and is closed to northbound traffic between 7am and 7pm, except for buses, taxis, blue badge holders and access for loading. The restrictions will be in place until at least the summer of 2024, with alternative parking available at car parks on Diamond Street, Sheene Road, Hereford Street, and Little Paradise Street.

Work in the area began on January 10, 2022. The council says the changes are necessary for the Bedminster Green redevelopment project.
The project comprises five plots between East Street and Windmill Hill in Bedminster that are being developed for housing and community spaces and includes the Hereford Street car park and Catherine's Place shopping centre, as well as some formerly industrial sites.
Plans for the sites will see the construction of a mix of new housing and public spaces and the installation of a low-carbon district heating network. It also aims to improve local public transport and make walking and cycling easier and safer.
