What you need to know

  • Google Pixel testers in the Android 16 QPR3 beta are reporting Microsoft app crashes once again.
  • Users state apps such as the Windows app, Outlook, and more are continuously crashing despite a fix being mentioned in the QPR3 Beta 2 changelog.
  • Google rolled out the latest beta version last week, and with it came loads of fixes and system improvements; however, users are still suffering.

Google's pushing ahead with its Android 16 QPR development — and once again users are voicing issues with crashing apps.

Over the past few days, enrolled Pixel testers in Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2 are reporting frustrating problems with the software and their apps (via Android Authority). A new thread has appeared on Reddit, with the original poster stating, "The Microsoft Teams crashing issue still persists on Pixel 6A after installing the new QPR3 beta 2." The user proceeded to ask if anyone has come across a more stable fix. Unfortunately, answers varied.

One user (Low_Molasses4720) with a Pixel Fold states that their Microsoft apps have continued to crash over the past few days. Another user, after downloading the update with hope, states that their apps continue to crash.

Many of the responses have remained along these lines, even with other reports coming from Google's Issue Tracker. Users with Pixel 7 series devices report continued crashes with Microsoft work apps, too; reports piled up shortly after the update was launched last week. One Issue Tracker user states, "Issue with MS app crashes is still there. Persists after Outlook reinstall."

Some users are frustrated, as these apps are quite necessary for their daily work. It's worth noting that while some users are experiencing trouble, others aren't. There's one user on Reddit who reports that their Microsoft apps are working fine. The publication noticed that Google acknowledged these issues a few weeks ago, but since the latest beta update, there have been no new responses.

Google rolled out Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2 last week, and with it came a huge changelog of fixes for testers. Bug fixes and system improvements were the main highlights, with critical crashes, notification shade glitches, and more among them. The "crash fixes" are what we're focusing on here, as Google tried to implement solutions to a growing problem for users.

Many users, as evident in the recent reports, were experiencing crashes with Microsoft apps in the beta. QPR3 Beta 2 was seen as the savior for them, as Google acknowledged these issues previously, and a fix was included last week. Unfortunately, despite the company's efforts, users are still suffering from these crashes.

It's unclear if what was implemented has reduced this number compared to what it was before.

That latest beta version provided deep divers with loads of code to sift through, with some encountering an "Intrusion" protection feature for users. In other news, Google's January 2026 security patch finally brought that long-awaited GPU fix for the Pixel 10 series.
