Restaurant spending is one of the first things households often scrutinize when budgets get uncomfortable, and that is happening again in 2026. The National Restaurant Association found that 39% of consumers spent less at restaurants, including takeout and delivery, during the third quarter than they did in the previous quarter, while 45% reported cutting full-service restaurant spending over the past year.
