It follows major problems at Manchester Airport this week, where staff shortages and the return to international travel combining to cause headaches for travellers as the system struggled under the weight of numbers. The airport apologised and said it was working as quickly as possible to boost staffing.
Today, it was the turn of those at Heathrow, where the airport blamed the disruption on Covid checks required by destination countries and "high passenger volumes". But there were also reports of staff shortages and problems with the e-gate passport checkpoints, as travellers took to social media to air their frustrations.
