Moped gang deliberately crashed into a car, threatened the driver with a knife and stole his motor

Masked thieves on a moped crashed into a car as part of a ruse to lure the driver out - before threatening him with a knife and driving off in his vehicle.

The 24-year-old victim has recounted how he got out of his Vauxhall Corsa after the scooter had been deliberately bumped into the car.

But one of the thieves pulled out a knife, threatened the driver and then drove off in the Corsa while the second thief fled on the moped.

Police are now hunting the thieves following the incident on Dalebeck Close in Whitefield on Sunday night.

The father of the victim told the M.E.N. that his son, an office worker, had been left 'very shaken' but physically unharmed following the attack.

Neither wanted to be named.

He said: "Normally he's a happy-go-lucky lad but he's very shaken up. He's just not himself. It's had a big, big effect on him and the whole family.

"The people who did this are scumbag druggies, and that's being nice about it. They don't work. They just want to take stuff off other people. We all work hard but there's a small minority on this estate who think they can do what they want.

"It's not fair on the other people who get off their bums and work for a living."

He described how one of the thieves had claimed his son had damaged the moped and demanded money from him following a minor collision. His son had told them 'there's nowt wrong with it' before the knife was pulled on him, he said.

The Corsa, valued at about £5,500, was found abandoned close to Parrenthorn High School on Monday morning.

The vehicle has been recovered by police and was being forensically examined by officers.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "We were called shortly before 6.10pm on Sunday 20 February to a report of a car-jacking on Dalebeck Close, Whitefield.

"Two men - said to have weapons - threatened the driver of a white Vauxhall Corsa before one made off in the vehicle.

"The car has since been recovered and enquiries are ongoing.

"No arrests have been made and anyone with information should contact us online or via 101 quoting incident 2545 of 20/02/2022.

"Details can be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
