Local fans of Monty Don will have a chance to catch up with the green-fingered BBC gardening expert when he takes to the road to talk about his work and life's passion.

The presenter and writer will be in Newcastle this autumn for a special event at Tyne Theatre & Opera House where the audience will be able to hear first-hand from the gardening expert and pick up some seasonal tips. And those eager to bag a seat for An Evening with Monty Don can book from this Friday, July 22 when tickets will go on sale.

Monty Don, whose date in the city will be on Bonfire Night, November 5, has been presenting BBC’s Gardeners’ World since 2003 and he is now seen as the UK’s leading garden writer and broadcaster. His upcoming evening event, described as the 'ultimate Monty Don experience', will see him discuss the role that gardens can play in human inspiration and our wellbeing - which was widely noted during the pandemic, when many people sought solace in their gardens during lockdown. Monty will talk about his career; his favourite gardens - both ancient and modern - and how he first fell in love with the natural world.

Fans will discover how he created his beautiful garden at Longmeadow; his top gardening practices and the impact of the changing of the seasons. The presenter, whose work has taken in horticultural journalism and a range of topics including travel, craft and outdoor living, has presented other popular TV series such as Big Dreams, Small Spaces; gardening shows with themes on Italian, French, Japanese and American gardens plus Around the World in 80 Gardens, sparking a variety of books.

Booking for An Evening with Monty Don will open on Friday at 10am: see here.
