Montez Sweat isn’t making any excuses. In Washington’s Week 4 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Commanders defensive end was credited with zero quarterback pressures and has yet to register a sack on the young season.
After Wednesday’s practice, Sweat spoke to reporters and was asked if the extra attention he was receiving due to Chase Young’s absence was limiting his productivity.
Sweat had the quote of the year.
“Excuses are like a—–s; everybody’s got them,” he said. “You just got to keep on going regardless of the attention. I’m sure it’s not going to stop.”
That’s the perfect answer.
🔥"Excuses are like assholes, everybody got 'em🔥
One of the best quotes of the young season from @Commanders defensive end Montez Sweat.
It's in response to being asked if he thinks he's been getting extra attention this year with Chase Young out.

Sweat discussed his lack of sacks.
“You try not to focus on that too much,” Sweat said per Peter Hailey of NBC Sports Washington. “It matters. I know that’s what everybody looks at. Just got to keep going, hopefully, they’ll come sooner or later.”
Sweat is right. Sometimes, sacks can be a bit overrated in the aspect that they don’t tell the entire story. Sweat was dominant in a Week 1 win over the Jaguars but didn’t record a sack. Yet, no one discussed it because Sweat was wreaking havoc.
Head coach Ron Rivera has certainly been pleased with Sweat’s performance early this season.
“Really the guy that’s facing a little bit more has been Montez in terms of the way the protections are rigged, and you see a conservative effort to pay attention to where he is,” Rivera said. “Those two interior guys [Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne] have done a heck of a job, and for what Montez has had to deal with, he’s been pretty stout.”
The sacks will come. The Commanders hope they begin on Sunday in JerryWorld against the Cowboys.
