A collection of impressionist paintings inspired by French painter Claude Monet are being showcased during "Vivid Recollection Of The Past" at RCB Artery, 1st floor of River City Bangkok, Charoen Krung 24, until Jan 8.
Presented by Pagoda Art Club, the exhibition features a special set of paintings portraying a water-lily pond by Thai artist Anchana Nangkala, who is also an art lecturer at the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts at Prince of Songkla University, Pattani.
She started painting flora as an undergraduate student but her flirtation with the work of Monet, one of the most famous Western painters of all time and also a founder of the Impressionism movement, began during her school years.
She saved for months to afford a book of his paintings that even in derivative form were potent to behold. She has kept this book with her until today and Monet has been an important source of inspiration throughout her career.
This year, she had a chance to go to France and was able to admire Monet's paintings in-person at museums in Paris. Her impression was beyond words and her memory was gradually fulfilled by the presence of his original oeuvre.
Upon returning home, she came up with a new collection of impressionist paintings of water lilies in a pond as an homage to the great artist.
