Tragedy as mum dies on flight home to UK - with kids sat beside her until landing
A family has been left "traumatised" after a mum died suddenly while flying back to the UK - with her heartbroken kids sitting beside her for hours until they could land. "One of a kind" mum and midwife Helen Rhodes was travelling with her family as part of a "new adventure", returning home after spending 15 years living in Hong Kong.
A few hours in, Helen was found unresponsive and couldn't be resuscitated after passing away in her sleep, reports The Mirror. Tragically, for the remaining eight hours of the flight, Helen's broken children sat next to their mum in a "breathless sleep" until they landed in Frankfurt, a friend of the family wrote.
Though it was an "extremely traumatising" experience, the "devastated" family had the opportunity to say their last goodbyes while sitting beside her. When they arrived, Helen's body stayed in the German city while her husband and kids continued on to the UK, leaving behind the "glue that held the family together".
Dad of Scots man murdered abroad on stag do says unsolved case is 'killing him'
The heartbroken father of a man murdered abroad told how the failure to bring his killers to justice is sending him to an early grave. Craig Mallon, 26, died from a lethal punch outside Rockefellers Bar in Spain's Lloret de Mar in May 2012 after a group of men attacked him and his brother's stag party.
Eyewitnesses gave detailed testimony of the brutal attack but it is believed the group fled the country the next day - and the case has never been solved. Craig's dad Ian told how the trauma has had a devastating impact on his own health - suffering two heart attacks and a stroke. His wife Antoinette, 46, died four years ago without knowing who killed her son, adding to his anguish.
Ian, from Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, said: "I've suffered two heart attacks, a stroke and had to undergo spinal surgery that left me in a wheelchair for 20 months. Not having any closure is robbing me of my health - it is killing me.
"It's been 10 years since Craig was murdered and I still don't have any justice. Every anniversary I go to his grave but I can't grieve like a normal dad because I've been left in limbo.
"I've had no answers and no one is behind bars for his death. It's devastating and I'm not sure how much more I can take. It's broken me in so many ways and you simply never get over losing a child - no parent should have to go through this."
Sickening footage shows terrified Scots pensioner screaming as bag thief drags her along road with car
Footage has captured the shocking moment an elderly woman was mugged by a callous thief who fled the scene while she tried desperately to cling on to the getaway vehicle.
The pensioner was left lying in the middle of the road on Hillview Avenue in Broxburn, West Lothian, screaming for help after the fiend sped off. Police Scotland have launched a probe into the sickening robbery, which occured shortly after 12.30pm on Saturday.
A video, believed to be from a doorbell camera, caught the shocking theft and the aftermath, as the lady was thrown to the ground by the force of the speeding car.
Ferry bosses call in cops to deal with 'aggressive customers' as Scots routes disrupted
Police have been called in to control 'aggressive' ferry customers after a spate of Caledonian MacBrayne services were disrupted.
Officers have attended ports in Mallaig and in Ardrossan after staff were subjected to abuse in recent days. Managing director Robbie Drummond took to social media to condemn the 'unacceptable' behavior and pleaded with members of the public to treat workers with respect.
He said: "I know frustrations are running high but please treat our staff with respect - they are doing their utmost to help customers. Police have been asked to attend Mallaig and Ardrossan. Aggressive behavior towards our staff is unacceptable and will not be tolerated."
It comes after a number of routes were hit with cancellations on Tuesday, August 2, due to safety issues with one of the fleet's oldest vessels. The MV Hebrides, which is 21-years-old, had to be withdrawn from service due to another issue with its CO2 firefighting system.
It meant services to Harris, Skye and North Uist were cancelled. The MV Isle of Mull was drafted in to operate services between Uig, Tarbert and Lochmaddy.
Scots hospital patient left waiting more than six years to be discharged
A hospital patient has been waiting more than six years to be discharged, new figures show.
The statistics, obtained by the Scottish Conservatives through freedom of information requests, show an NHS Grampian patient has had their discharge delayed by 2,312 days.
It is understood the majority of delays are caused by patients awaiting a care home place or a social care package at home being introduced, Age Scotland research shows. Patients waited an average of 23 days to leave hospital in the 12 months to June 2022, according to the data.
However one patient in Greater Glasgow and Clyde had their discharge delayed by 1,810 days – the equivalent of more than five years. Of those still waiting to leave hospital, their current delay is 52 days.
