A woman jailed for the horrific neglect of her toddler kept her in a "grubby" living room, a probe into the child's death has heard. Margaret Wade, 41, and Marie Sweeney, 40, left Lauren Wade to starve to death at their filthy flat in Glasgow's Sighthill.

A judge heard how the two-year-old went without proper food or care for months and was riddled with thousands of head lice. On March 20 2015, a 999 call was made after the child was found to be “unresponsive”.

A "skinny and dirty" Lauren had a sodden nappy, bald patches and thousands of head lice. She was rushed to hospital – but around 30 minutes later was pronounced dead.

Wade told nurses Lauren had been suffering from a virus for a couple of days. A post mortem revealed the toddler had been the victim of “severe neglect.”

Boy dies after tragic helium balloon accident as mum pays tribute to 'little sidekick'

Karlton Noah Donaghey, five, from Dunston, Gateshead (Chronicle Live)

A five-year-old boy has lost his fight for life after spending six days in intensive care following a tragic balloon accident. Little Karlton Donaghey died after attempting to climb into a large helium dinosaur inflatable which he got at a funfair in Newcastle.

Mum Lisa Donaghey, 43, found her son on the floor of their home in Gateshead with the balloon over his head and neck. She has now issued an urgent warning over the dangers of helium.

Young Karlton was given emergency CPR by neighbours before medics arrived at the scene and airlifted him to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary. He spent six days in intensive care before his ventilator was sadly switched off, the Mirror reports.

Lisa, who is also mum to Kaitlin, 25, Joe, 20, and Will, 15, said they had been enjoying the warm weather in the garden when the accident happened on June 23. She said she had gone to check on Karlton after he went inside to use the toilet.

"When I came in he was on the floor with the balloon over his head and his neck," she said. "It was a dinosaur balloon which was the same size as him. I think he's put himself in the balloon to be a dinosaur to go outside and surprise his nieces.

Andy Goram's ex-wife: 'He said anyone who wanted to go to his funeral should get the chance'

Andy Goram told loved ones he wanted his funeral service to be a full house. The Rangers legend said his final farewell should be packed with family, friends and fans.

He picked Wellington Church in Glasgow’s west end because it can hold 900 people. The 58-year-old asked ex team-mates Ally McCoist, John Brown and former club chairman Donald Findlay QC to give a eulogy.

Goram, considered by fans to be Rangers’ greatest-ever keeper, lost his battle with oesophageal cancer on July 2. His death came just 10 weeks after he was told he was terminally ill.

Ex-wife Miriam Wylie and close pal Stan Gordon met with Rangers officials last week to finalise details of Goram’s final journey. Goram’s funeral cortege is expected to pass Ibrox stadium where there will be a wreath-laying ceremony at 1pm on Monday, July 18.
