Moment man who killed dog walker in 'random' attack in west London is Tasered by police

Bodycam footage shows Dawood Safi being approached by officers, who Taser him after he refuses to drop his weapon - (PA)

The is the moment police Tasered an Afghan migrant who brutally stabbed an innocent dog walker to death and left his landlord with critical injuries in a separate knife attack.

Dawood Safi, 28, has been handed an indefinite hospital order at Broadmoor after the killing of Wayne Broadhurst, 49, in Uxbridge, West London, on October 27, 2025.

Southwark Crown Court was told Safi had embarked on a knife spree that left his landlord Shahzad Farrukh, 45, with life changing injuries and another 14-year-old boy hospitalised.

As Safi wandered the streets with his hands covered in blood, police bodycam footage showed the moment officers caught up with him. When the knifeman refused to let go of his weapon, officers Tasered him and immediately handcuffed him.

The court heard that Safi, who arrived in the UK hidden inside a lorry in 2020, was undergoing a mental health episode at the time he launched his attack on Mr Broadhurst, which was described by prosecutors as an "entirely unprovoked, ferocious and senseless killing", The Daily Mail reports.

The jury heard that Mr Broadhurst, who worked as a street cleaner for Hillingdon Council, died “almost instantly” at the scene, with his dog at his side.

Earlier this week, prosecutors accepted Safi's guilty to plea to manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility as he denied murder.

It was heard that Safi visited his GP on October 25, two days before the attack, complaining of hearing voices, but he was turned away after mental health staff determined his illness did not require assistance from a hospital.

After killing Mr Broadhurst, Safi told psychiatrists of his guilt after looking at "naked images of women" and said he "feared the judgement of God".

In a statement, Mr Broadhurst's family said: "Our family is devastated by the tragic loss of our beloved Wayne Broadhurst, aged 49.

"Wayne was a kind, caring and loving man who meant the world to us. He had a heart of gold and was the type of person who would do anything for anyone.

"He never met a stranger and had a way of making everyone feel welcome. To those who knew him, Wayne was more than a family member or friend – he was someone you could always rely on.

"Wayne's passion for Liverpool Football Club was well known. He lived and breathed football, and supporting Liverpool brought him immense joy.

"Whether watching a match with family and friends or talking football with anyone who would listen, his enthusiasm was infectious.

"The loss of Wayne has left an enormous void in our lives that can never be filled. We will cherish the memories, laughter and love he gave us every day, and we will miss him beyond words.

"As a family, we would like to thank everyone who has shown us kindness, compassion and support during this incredibly difficult time.

"We also ask that our privacy is respected as we come to terms with our devastating loss. Wayne will forever remain in our hearts and will never be forgotten. You'll Never Walk Alone."

Although the prosecution accepted Safi's plea of manslaughter in relation to Mr Broadhurst, he stood trial on separate charges of attempting to murder Mr Farrukh and the 14-year-old boy.

Safi pleaded not guilty to both counts of attempted murder but was convicted by a jury of attempting to murder Mr Farrukh.

The jury foreman stated they were deadlocked on the attempted murder charge relating to the teenager, and they were discharged on that count by Mrs Justice Cutts.

Safi will return to court for sentencing on October 5 following psychiatric reports.

Detective Inspector Richard MacKenzie, who led the investigation, said: "This was a shocking attack that, tragically, led to Wayne Broadhurst's death and had a huge impact on the local community.

"As the tributes paid to him after his death showed, Wayne was a hugely popular member of the community and my thoughts remain with his family and loved ones.

"I want to recognise the devastating impact of Safi's brutal attack on his two victims who survived the attack and to commend the exceptional bravery they showed in the face of such violence.

"The physical and emotional consequences of this traumatic incident are likely to be felt for many years to come.

"Finally, I want to pay tribute to the courageous members of the public who attempted to protect the victims from the attacker, as well as the police officers who were first on the scene of this incident."
